In-Climate Weather

We will race, "rain or shine".  Even if there is 2 feet of snow on the ground, we will race.  Only in the event of severe weather or lightning will we delay or postpone the event.  Note...the average low temperature during March in the Evansville area is 35 degrees with a high of 55 degrees.

Race Description

The course is a 3.1 mile trail loop that winds through the Angel Mounds Woods.  Consisting of a mix of single and double track trails, the course is very flat and a joy to run.  Your feet will never touch the pavement while running this loop.  Detailed course information and maps can be found on our "Course" page.

Timing (Updated 2/20)

The event will be chip timed.   Finisher results will be made available throughtout the morning.  Manual lap splits will be provided for those running the 10K or half-marathon. (note each lap is 3.1 miles) however they won't be available until results are posted online.  Complete timing and results will be posted to the website within 24 hours of the event's conclusion.

Drop-Down Policy (see the following from the FAQ.)

So let's say I sign up for the half-mary (4 laps), then I decide I want to cut it short and just complete the 10k (2 laps). What is your policy on this?

Good question and here's your answer. If you have pre-registered you are allowed to change your race provided you notify us at least 24 hours in advance of the event. You can do that here... Now, if you decide you want to cut it short and drop down to a shorter distance "after the race has started" you may do so. Please let one of the finish line volunteers know this as you come thru the finishing chute. However, if you choose to cut your race short after the race has started, you will not be eligible for any awards or recognition. You will still be listed as a finisher and included in the result for the distance you actually completed yet the results will indicate you dropped down to a shorter race. Regardless, your finish time and lap splits will be provided. We fully realize that runners have off days and there is no problem dropping down. We just need to keep it fair from an awards and recognition standpoint

Aid Station

The fully stocked and aid station will be located just beyond the start/finish line adjacent at the Angel Mounds Visitor Center.  It will be stocked with the following......

  • Water
  • Gatorade
  • Hammer Gels
  • Bananas
  • Oranges
  • Cookies
  • M&M's
  • Peanuts
  • Granola

*Special note... This is the only aid station on the course.  Unlike road races that commonly have aid stations every mile, trail racing event typically space out aid stations every 3-4 miles.  Please plan accordingly, especially with regards to hydration.  There are no water stops out in the woods so be sure to bring your "handheld" water bottle, hydration pack or "fuel-belt".

Drop Bags

For those running the 10K or half-marathon, there will be a designated area next to the aid station where you can place your drop bag.  Drop bags can be used to discard (or add) additional clothing and/or stock your own nutrition/hydration not provided at the aid station.

Trail Etiquette

There will be a short "drop zone" directly following the aid station.  It will be clearly identified and trash containers will be available.  This is the only place on the entire loop you may discard cups, wrappers etc....  Please do not discard any trash out on the course.  Anyone caught violating this policy will be disqualified.

Time Limits

All races will have a 5 hour time limit and race timing will officially end at 1 p.m.  If you do not complete your race within that time frame you will receive a DNF for your event.

Spectators

We encourage you to bring out your friends and family to cheer you on.  The Friends of Angel Mounds will be serving food throughout the race and you can also visit the Angel Mounds Historic Museum just yards away.  Keep an eye out for special offers from the Angel Mounds State Historic Site.  Make sure to bring your lawn chairs and dress accordingly.  The race begins and ends right next to the shelter house at the visitors center. For those participants running the 10K or half-marathon, your supporters will get to see you each time you complete a lap as you come back by the start/finish line.

Awards & Finisher Goodies & Results

Awards will be given to the top 3 males and top 3 females for each race.  I'm not going to say what they are but the "overall" awards are pretty cool!  Additionally, a "finisher's hat" will be provided for all race finishers (only guaranteed for the first 140 entrants).  All half-marathon finishers will also receive a finishers medal.  The awards ceremony for each event will be held as follows....

  • 5K - 9:30 a.m.
  • 10K - 10:30 a.m.
  • Half-Marathon - 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, results will be posted online within 24 hours of the events completion via the "Results" page.  The top 3 finishers in each age group will receive online recognition however awards will be not distributed to age group winners this year.  Hopefully we can do this in 2013.

Post Race Meal & Refreshments

A post race meal will be provided to all race participants as part of their registration fee.  Families, spectators and supporters can purchase food, beverages and refreshments for an additional charge.  Food will be provided by the "Friends of Angel Mounds" food booth.  Race participants will be provided a wristband in their race packets.  Simply present your wristband to receive your post-race meal. Please check back and we will provide further details in regards to food offered, costs, etc....

Volunteers

We are in need of volunteers to assist with this event.  If you would like to help us out be sure to visit our "Volunteer" page.

Hotels & Accomodations

If you are in need of accommodations simply search for hotels in Evansville, Indiana.  There are several located just minutes away from Angel Mounds.  Here are just a few that come to mind.  They all are located on Evansville's east side and are surrounded by a huge variety of restaurants.

  • La Quinta Inn & Suites
  • Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites
  • Baymont Inn & Suites
  • Fairfield Inn Evansville East
  • Hampton Inn
  • Hilton Garden Inn

We are not endorsing any of these accommodations, rather just letting you know they are extremely close to the race site.  All of these hotels are located at the intersection of Interstate 164 (Exit 7) and the Lloyd Expressway (State Route 66).

If you have any additional questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
